A bound volume that contains manuscript notes and is also a scrapbook with various articles and pertinent data pasted in. This work is given the fully descriptive title (in manuscript) of "Charters and Amendatory Acts of Georgia Banks, Insurance and Trust Companies, also the General Banking Law, and Acts regulating the Intercourse between Banks and Brokers. Laws, concerning mismanagement and Insolvency of Banks, and in reference to Bills of Exchange, Notarial Certificates, Mortgages, etc. 1839." Included is information on the Commercial Bank of Macon, Insurance Bank of Columbus, Bank of Hawkinsville, Farmers Bank of Chattahoochie, Mechanics Bank of Augusta and numerous other Augusta banks, Bank of the State of Georgia, Bank of Darien, Planters Bank Savannah, Bank of Milledgeville, Bank of Brunswick, Ocmulgee Bank, Bank of St. Marys, several railroad and banking companies, and insurance and trust companies.

The collection consists mainly of an autobiography of John Banks written sporadically from 1830-1865. His autobiography outlines his boyhood and family background; service in the Seminole Indian Wars in 1818 in Florida; his involvement in various mercantile businesses in Elbert and Henry counties; his presidency in the Planters & Mechanics' Bank in Columbus; ownership in the Howard Manufacturing Company (textile) in Columbus; the Civil War and his sons', Daniel Watkins, Richard Eugene, and Willis Dunston service in the Confederate Army; and Sherman's march through Georgia. The collection also includes the Banks family bible containing births, deaths, and marriages, and two published works on the Banks and Winstanley families' genealogy.

The collection consists of papers of Mills B. Lane, Jr. Mills B. Lane, Sr. and the Mills family from 1916-1989. Materials (1916-1943) relating to Mills B. Lane, Sr. include incoming correspondence and carbon copies of Mills' outgoing letters, clippings, photographs, and legal documents. The materials document Mills' banking activities including his presidency of the Citizens and Southern National Bank (Savannah, Ga.) and tenure as chairman of the Board, as well as Mills' involvement with Georgia real estate sales, fertilizer and chemical companies, and his assistance to Georgia farmers through bank loans. Correspondents include Lane's brother Edward W. Lane and A.P. Brantley. The bulk of the collection (1931-1979) contains the correspondence of Mills Bee Lane, Jr. Includes letters (1931-1934) between Lane, Jr. and his parents, Lane, Sr. and Mary Comer Lane, while a student at Yale University; letters (1935-1945) between Lane, Jr. and Lane, Sr. discussing banking activities, finance, and farming; correspondence (1950-1974) between Lane, Jr. and his brother Edward C. Lane concerning finances and the management of Edward's farm in Valdosta (Ga.); and letters (1958-1973) between Lane, Jr. and Mills Lane concerning Mills' schooling at Middlesex School (Concord, Mass.) and Harvard University, Mills' activities with Beehive Press (Savannah, Ga.), and Mills' finances. The collection also contains correspondence pertaining to the resignation of Richard Kattel, the financial crisis of Citizens and Southern Bank (1978), and the establishment of the Mills Bee Lane Memorial Foundation (Savannah, Ga.).
